Time-of-Use Rate

An electricity pricing plan where the kWh price changes depending on the time of day or week.

A time-of-use (TOU) rate splits the day into peak, mid-peak, and off-peak windows, each priced differently. Off-peak hours - usually overnight and weekends - can be 30-60% cheaper than peak afternoon rates. Home miners on a TOU plan can schedule their Malairte miner to run only during off-peak windows, sharply reducing electricity cost while still earning MLRT. Not every utility offers TOU plans, and not every customer is opted in even where they exist - check your bill or contact your electric company. Whether TOU saves you money overall depends on when you also do high-draw activities like cooking, laundry, and air conditioning.
